Inspiration.

I need something new in my decorating life and I think this might be it! I have grown tired of my Malm bed - I'm always slamming my shins against it! This Lillesand bed is so cute and more twords the style I want to make our bedroom. What do you think?

Here is what my brain is asking today...

It's another rainy day here in the Pacific NW and I can't take it anymore! I know I know, I moved here knowing good and well it rains...a lot...but still! I need to wear sandals, sunglasses and not to need to wear a scarf at the end of April! What I wouldn't give for a desert day? Lord, please help us get back to Tucson asap! Love, me.

Uprise!

My way...
source with a little text art added by me!

cake mix cookies

Hey ya'll (yes I just said ya'll) the other day while grocery shopping I picked up a box of cake mix to make, what I call, cake mix cookies. These are easy to do as well as cheap (cake mix usually costs less than $2 a box.) I decided to make Lemon Drop cookies but the possibilities are endless. Here is the recipe!

Need:
1-box cake mix
1- large egg
1/4 cup oil
1/4 water
mixin's (chocolate chips, nuts, etc.)

Combine the cake mix, egg, oil and water. Once well mixed ( I like to use a mixer for this recipe because the dough is pretty thick and it's easier on the arm muscles) add in your mixin's if you have any then place on a cookie sheet in a 350 degree oven for about 13 minutes (watch them - some mixes have taken longer and some shorter I've noticed.) Enjoy!

I've made cherry chip with chocolate, confetti cookies with icing and would love to try the spice cake with maybe some nuts and cream cheese icing. Get creative and enjoy this super easy treat!

weekend happenings

Lucky for me I have, pretty much, the whole weekend for crafting! So what did I craft? I completed this fun scarf/bag/coat hanger thingy, another Slanty Cowl and the Lyra Cap! I also purchased some way cute fabric on sale for my mother's day projects that I'll begin on Monday!

What did you create this weekend?

tgif!

Decided to do this fun Fill in the Blank Friday over at the Little Things We Do blog! What a cute blog and what a fun way to meet new bloggers ;) Have a great Friday!

1.  The first thing I do in the morning is     go in to the restroom, turn on the light and TRY to wake up. Then coffee of course  .

2.  Every night before bed  I     drink some water, make sure the door is locked and chase around the cats to get them out of the bedroom!

3.  My favorite thing to do when I'm having a bad day is     go see a movie by myself. I know a lot of people feel weird doing this but I love it! It always gets my mind off of whatever was making my day bad and gives me two hours in one of my favorite places - the movies!

4.  Something that makes me cringe is    the thought of slicing my fingertip when shaving my legs. I know this is strange and it never happens (I'm very careful!) but for some reason the image always pops in my head and makes me cringe! ewww and oww  .

5.  Social situations  are a lot more fun for me than my husband. He is more of a introvert and I'm an extrovert, so we have to balance our time wisely. A few hours of social fun then wrap up at home makes for a balanced evening!

6.  I like to collect    kitchen gadgets and gnomes (no gnomes in the kitchen though.)

7.  Weekends are for    sleeping in, crafts, window shopping and exploring the NW. Making dinner with friends and seeing a movie is always a plus!

Tucson wrap-up!

For my final City Views post about Tucson, I thought I would share ideas of places to go around Tucson and in Arizona! There are some wonderful day trips and weekend trips you can take while visiting Southern Arizona. Of all the places I visitied, I most enjoyed Sedona. Going to Sedona would be perfect for a weekend trip or a long day trip!

Sedona is roughly a 3 hour drive from Tucson but it's worth it! The area is packed with hiking trails, camping, natural water slides and those beautiful Red Rocks! Sedona is also known to many as a spiritual retreat.  Check out Visit Sedona for more info!

Another family friendly afternoon getaway is Old Tucson Studios! Located on the far west side of Tucson amongst the Tucson mountains,  Old Tucson is a great place for visitors. Tour old west movie sets, watch stunt shows and take a tour of a haunted mine all in one afternoon! I have been to Old Tucson multiple times and always enjoy it! Ticket prices are fair priced and since it's in town, you are close to hotels, food and more!

Hope you enjoyed my little feature on Tucson!

Tucson part II

I think Tucson considers itself more of a "creative" community than some other cities. Pictured above is the 4th Ave. Street Fair that happens twice a year. This event brings vendors from all over the Southwest selling their handmade goods, foods and other junk.  Also along 4th Ave, you can find one of a kind stores and galleries focusing on local craftsmen and artists!  Tucson also offers your standard shopping malls, chain stores and some higher end stores at La Encantada outdoor shopping center.

One of Tucson's more famous galleries would have to be DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun. One of the areas most beloved painters,Ted DeGrazia, opened the studio in 1944. The gallery is a place full or art and history - it's an art gallery and museum all in one. What a wonderful way to spend the day in Tucson!

I will wrap up my City Views - Tucson tomorrow!

cRaft!

Yes, another fun crafty post! Even though it's now been a while since I got married, I still look at many, many, many wedding blogs daily to get inspiration! Today on 100 Layer Cake (we were featured here!) they had this yummy craft idea I can't wait to try.

This is a great springtime gift for mother's day or just because! I'm thinking of trying these out for mother's day (May 9th!) so I will post pictures of how they turn out!

City Views - Tucson!

Tucson is home. Even though I was born and raised in Texas, I lived in Tucson for 3 years and it quickly became home for me.  It was the making of great friends and spending time with new family that made me feel at home. My husband and I moved to the Pacific NW about 2 years ago and have enjoyed it but our hearts are still in the desert. Here are some pictures of Tucson and surrounding areas!

These pictures were taken during a hike to 7 Falls in Sabino Canyon. Tucson is surrounded by the beautiful Catalina mountains and the Tucson mountains. With tons of hiking and biking trails, the nature enthusiast is bound to find adventure! The Tucson area also offers cave exploring, snow skiing on Mt. Lemmon and lots of critter watching!

Tucson offers great weather most of the year. Yes, it's HOT during the summer, but winter and spring are mild and really enjoyable. It's always sunny and the sunsets are to die for! This picture was taken one spring day just outside of my old apartment.

More on city life and attractions to come ;)

cRaft!

I saw this CUTE project on Freckled Nest the other day and decided to try it out on my day off work! Here is what I came up with ;)

I got the frame last week at Goodwill and painted it white (it was gold.) I couldn't decide what I was going to use it for until today!

I am so happy with it! What an easy and fun project for a lazy day off.

new layout!

If you read my blog through Google Reader, you won't be able to see this but my blog got a facelift today! I've been trying to decide if I liked it how it was or if I wanted to add a third column. Well, I went with three and like it a lot but it wasn't without challenge. Good thing my husband is a computer geek. There is still some work to be done (the header, spreading things out a bit to name a few) but I hope this change will satisfy me for a while. Eventually, I really want to overhaul this thing and have it look real cute! Hope everyone had a great Friday. Signing off with a little Suki lovin!

mirror follow-up

Here is the follow-up pictures (that I've been promising) to my mirror facelift post! It's not the best picture, but you can get the idea! Once was gold, now is blue!

Today I've been working on some picture frame facelifts and some new knitting projects. Hope to post some pictures of those later this week. Also, I am going to start working on my next City Views post, so look for that soon!

easy as Pie!

Here is a little Spring/Summer pie recipe I tried out this weekend! Found this easy-as-pie recipe on ...loveMaegan. Here is what you will need: two flavors of your favorite yogurt, 1-8oz thawed whipped topping and 1-ready made (or make your own) pie crust.

As you can see above, I was making two pies - one boysenberry and one lemon.

See the rest of the recipe after the break!

love.

I felt like making a little "digital" art today with some of my favorite resources - NYPL Digital Gallery, Seashore for Mac and a romantic poet.

If you can't tell already, I am currently obsessed with all things romantical. I hope that tonight my dreams take me away to the country side of England where I will attend a wonderful ball, drink wine and meet Darcy.

A girl can dream, can't she?

What a cute poster I came across today when browsing French Press Knits! All the credit for the free poster downloads goes to Laylock (thank you!!) You can download your free postere HERE! I plan to either print the grey shown here or the teal.

More posts later with weekend updates!

my love of Darcy

While talking with Sandra tonight about Bright Star, I started to think about how much I love a certain man. No, not my husband but Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. *sigh* Yes, I actually sighed just now.

The character of Mr. Darcy is the most memorable man in all of literature for me. Good thing my old man looks a bit like the Mr. Darcy in my mind...minus the whole pride thing.

The struggle between Elizabeth and Darcy is the classic romantic dynamics I believe every woman to desire and daydream of.

I will never cease to love him, swoon after him, get annoyed with him and dream about him as long as I live.

I love you, Darcy.
xoxo - Suki

What to do...

with fabric scraps? Make some napkins!
I needed a little craft to do after work today, so I pulled some fabric scraps together and made some simple napkins.

Here is one of the napkins folded Kimono style!

If anyone is interested in knowing how to fold them Kimono style, let me know and I'll do a little "How-To" post.
